A Founder Who Made History

The history of the VGP reads like a story. It is a story of a single man, born in a remote village, to parents reeling in abject poverty.

Though penniless, Panneerdas, the lean and hungry village lad of 12, who became the legendary VGP, had the richness of vision of thoughts and dreams of things he wanted to do. Leaving his village, he set-forth for chennai, the city of his dreams.

VGP secured a job as an Assistant in a grocery shop for a pittance of Rs.3/- a month. He worked hard, with lead and heart, and soon established his own tea shop. Not content with just that and bolstered with the arrival of his younger brother, V.G.Santhosam and later the youngest brother V.G.Selvaraj, VGP tired many new avenues of trade like crosswords, calendar agency, News Paper vending.. to what seemed final then to the business of consumer durables. He pioneered the idea of "Buy now... pay later" Which is such a rage today.

The rest is history.

VGP's whole family now joined him in his endeavors - his youngest brother V.G.Selvaraj in the 1960's, followed by all the son's of the family, viz. VGP Rajadas, VGP Babudas, VGP Prasaddas, VGP Murphydas, VGS Rajesh. VGP Zoomed to greater heights, selling housing plots, building townships, beach resorts, operating a chain of ultra modern departmental stores dotting the nation, setting up "state of the art" video duplicating plant, Travel and Tourism etc. The Midas Touch was evident. He made VGP a household name and his ventures into a Corporate Business House. Honor, hard work, honesty and humanity were the cornerstones of his ceaseless pursuits.  

That's VG Panneerdas.

Even after the sudden  and untimely demise of Panneerdas in 1988, his younger brothers and his sons carry on his rich legacy. True to his soul, they have entered into new areas like Agro Farms, Aqua Farms, Finance, Management Education, time sharing Resorts, Video and Sound Recording Studios, Property Development etc. The underlining principle of all VGP Enterprises is to benefit the common man.

Today, the 42 year old VGP Group is a Multimillion empire with rich assets. AS` ever, the group has ambitious plans for the future, to launch into newer pastures like cement, Theme Parks, Hotel Chains, Global Export and Import of Commodities etc.
